Saturn in Scorpio – Learning to accept that you don’t always have control.

On October 5th 2012, Saturn shifts signs from Libra, the sign of relationships to Scorpio the sign of sharing, merging and of power. It will stay in the sign of the Scorpion until the end of 2014. For many of you out there this change is going to prove a huge relief, as Saturn moving through Libra has been a wearing experience. So what did you learn while Saturn was passing through Libra? For many, I will wager that in the past two years, your relationships be them personal or professional came under huge strain. Saturn in Libra is learning to deal with other people in your life and those people putting restrictions on yours; Saturn always puts the barriers up before allowing you to progress onwards. Under Saturn in Libra, new relationships were formed and outworn relationships were broken, many would have been solidified. Now as Saturn has completed it’s work on our relationships in showing the outside world of the commitments to others we have made, it now turns it’s gaze to the internal politics within them. It’s time to get deep, down and dirty.

The first thing to note is that we have some mutual bonding (although with Scorpio’s reputation it could be bondage!!) going on here, as Pluto is in Saturn’s sign of Capricorn and Saturn is moving into Pluto’s sign of Scorpio. This is mutual reception going on and one senses that there is a lot of harmony associated with Saturn’s movement through Scorpio this time, it may not be as difficult as it could be. Now I am not saying that Saturn’s journey through the underworld domain of Scorpio is going to be easy. The land of Scorpio is one of transformation, of learning how to deal with power and how to use control. This is a place where great wealth can be accumulated and ecstatic joy can be experienced, but also where one has to deal with loss and with pain, a never ending cycle that Sun sign Scorpios know so well. Scorpio rules sex and intimacy, and here we explore merging and sharing not only each other’s possessions, but also though our innermost secrets and desires. When the curtains close and passions rise, Scorpio goes to work.

Saturn entering this realm of darkness immediately challenges Scorpio’s control. There may well be areas of your life, and this will equate to the house that Saturn is moving through where Saturn will wrestle control from you. Now this may cause panic, because Scorpio’s effectiveness is based all around control. Have you ever noticed Scorpios going into disintegration mode when they lose something valuable to them, something over which they had control? Saturn is teaching you lessons here, and the only way that you will be able to deal with it’s presence will be to adjust your thinking and ideas and accept that in order to proceed and make progress, you will have to give up something first. Opposing Saturn’s will is akin to banging your head against a brick wall, the only thing is that this wall is made of solid concrete and is several inches (or centimetres) thick. You’ll only be wasting your time and quite frankly you won’t win no matter how hard you try.

The key during this period is to accept the restrictions placed in front of you. It may be that you will have to share responsibilities, allow someone to take over part of what you own, that you don’t fight against giving up some power to gain some freedom, you might bring someone into the most secret and intimate areas of your life or just step up to the plate and face your fears head on. If you do, then you can achieve amazing things under this two and a half year transit, the world can be your oyster. Also bare this in mind. Almost unbreakable bonds will be formed under Saturn in Scorpio, so be sure that wherever connections are made you remain committed and loyal, otherwise any battle for power will be a nasty and complicated one. Scorpio is where jealousy, manipulation, destruction, ruin and death is found, and you wouldn’t want to incite those qualities to be posed against you, would you?

In a wider global context, Saturn in Scorpio really complements Pluto in Capricorn and with the Uranus Pluto square operating throughout the next two years, the healing process of the financial crash we have endured for the past 4 years can start to begin, although it is going to be a long haul and will be associated with a lot of pain, hardship and irritability. Uranus will be inconjunct to Saturn for quite a while in 2013, and those with progressive and radical ideas may find their desires and messages blocked and will no doubt rebel against Saturn’s iron rule.

Between now and the end of 2014, there will be serious implications and decisions to be made in big business and in corporations. Expect lots of company mergers, collaborations and major investment projects especially in the financial world. This is a naturally fixed and conservative influence, so the issues of taxation and who pays what to whom will be a constant theme. The issue of debt also comes to mind. Scorpio rules debt and money owed, and Saturn is going to get tough on this, but not as abrasive as it could be. As these two planets are in mutual reception throughout this two year transit and will be in an opportunistic sextile aspect through a lot of it, so I think that whatever solutions that Saturn (those in charge) will come up with will be acceptable to those who hold the debt and have to pay it off (Scorpio/Pluto). Financial regulations will be imposed now too - Saturn will see to this alright, and banks better get ready to accept the lack of control in their operations that is coming their way!

Anything to do with natural Scorpio subjects may well enter the news for good or for bad reasons. Mining and the exploration of natural resources like oil or coal, or issues of things found underground will be back in the news often, nuclear safety and heavy industry also. Matters of a sexual nature may crop up too, be it through scandal, through relationships or in the medical arena. It’s a fact that AIDS came to prominence in the last transit of Saturn through Scorpio between 1983 and 1985. Maybe the subject of life and death too may be placed on the agenda of governments? Euthanasia is a hot topic right now in Europe, as is abortion, the right to life as well as the death penalty in the United States.

So get ready and pack your supplies for the journey through the inner sanctums of life. Along the way we are going to experience some loss and we will face our deepest darkest fears, but if we go into the underworld with an open mind and a willingness to accept our limitations, then when we reach the light and the gateway to the expansive open world of Sagittarius, we will find ourselves in a much better place than we were when we entered in.

Lady Gaga – Brave, artistic and very switched on.

Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta or Lady Gaga as she likes to be known is a fascinating character to be sure. At the moment, never one to be missing a trick, she was seen at the opening of London fashion week wearing a garish bright pink burka!! How’s that for crossing stereotypes, a Roman Catholic girl from New York who openly expresses her sexuality donning in Western eyes the most controversial of Islamic fashion. Since 2008 when she burst onto the pop world with her multi platinum selling album “The Fame”, Gaga has taken over the territory in many people’s eyes where Madonna ruled in the 80’s and 90’s. Brash, brave and highly aware, today I take a look at the astrology of a girl you cannot keep out of the newspapers.

Lady Gaga was born on 28th March 1986 at 09.53hrs in Yonkers, New York, the information courtesy of her biography. She is a Sun sign Aries with a Scorpio Moon and a Gemini Ascendant. Straight away I notice that this is a chart with no air signs but it does have a Gemini Ascendant. When there is a lack of one element, it always seems that the subject will try to compensate for this imbalance, and here the Gemini Ascendant acts as a conduit or a lightening rod for the rest of the chart. The requirement here is to communicate, to network and to get out one’s message in whatever way one can. I think we can agree that Lady Gaga does not in any way lack a media savvy brain, or fails to get her ideas across.

Her Sun in Aries and her Moon in Scorpio and this combination is so representative of what we see. We have the energetic, impulsive Aries Sun combined with the more secretive mysterious energy of the Scorpio Moon. It’s like Lady Gaga has to be recognised as an individual, but also has to be hidden away behind a mask, or a wig or dark sunglasses or a bright pink see-through burka. Her Sun is interestingly in her 11th house, so this is a woman who does collaborate with people and with friends really quite well, although the Sun in Aries does tend to mean that she is the individual within the group. Venus is in Aries also in the 11th and this suggests that she needs that band of brothers and sisters around her to fortify her personality. You may not see it, but I can guarantee you that there is a close team working with her to plot her every move.

Now aspects from both Venus and the Sun feed into the 4 planets sitting in the 6th and the 7th houses which are the focus of this chart, Saturn and Uranus in the 6th and Neptune and Mars in the 7th. Do you see the mini grand trine above with these planets at the focus point? Jupiter and the Pisces Midheaven trine to a Moon Pluto conjunction in Scorpio in Lady Gaga’s 5th house, and the energy from this trine is homed in onto Uranus Neptune and Mars.

Let’s delineate all this then. The Pisces Midheaven shows that Lady Gaga’s career was always going to be an artistic one. The Midheaven is conjunct to both Jupiter and Mercury in Pisces showing great imagination and writing ability as well as musical acumen. Jupiter in the 10th always seems to promise riches from one’s career and here it also brings the chance for international attention through her work. Mercury is retrograde, and it is noticeable that Gaga is often seen, but not heard so much. The thought processes are turned in on oneself; those with Mercury in Pisces retrograde are reluctant speakers, as if words alone cannot convey what they have in their minds. This need to keep one’s counsel does keep that aura of mystique about her though.

This Jupiter and Midheaven are making a trine to Pluto and the Moon in the 5th house of entertainment and creation. This is a very very driven lady. She wants fame and notoriety at all costs and with the Moon here in the 5th house she will take risks and use her emotions and her sexuality (Pluto) to achieve her aims, indeed there seem to be no depths that she will not go to in order to create an impression – there is raw passion and energy on show here. This is a highly secretive and manipulative Moon too, and she will let very few people into her personal world, and the ones she does she will try to control, but their is always a double edged sword to wherever Pluto is found.  This is also the house of giving love and one can imagine that her love relationships are stormy and have and will be life changing. The trine between Moon Pluto and Jupiter Midheaven promises huge success and rewards, but there is a potential cost to the paid at the point of the formation too.

Mars and Neptune sit in Lady Gaga’s 7th house in Capricorn. This is sheer charisma with business acumen all rolled into one. The two musical signs in the zodiac are Taurus and Capricorn, and you find a lot of high grossing music stars with Capricorn prominent because of a natural ability how to organise yourself, promote yourself and run your musical talent in a business sense. The musical ability is obvious here, she is a song writer and plays the piano, with the mini grand trine pointing at Neptune (ruling music and imagination) which is connected to the Midheaven and is square to the Sun. Mars in Capricorn is very disciplined and great at forming a strategy through life. The one downside of this placing is that she will suffer from idealism and through stormy permanent relationships. Neptune in the 7th wants the perfect partner and is very gullible in one to one situations and Mars attracts feisty and combative people to your side. One can be duped into thinking that someone is wonderful when in the background they are deceiving you. One can see the situation where once that cover of deception is lifted, arguments and fights can ensue.

Now this Neptune Mars conjunction is also conjunct to Uranus. Uranus brings unpredictability and the spirit of a true adventurer. Artistically, this is a woman who will shock to amaze. Uranus is also square to Mercury in Pisces, so her imagination comes out through this Uranus and into her creative work. This connection is like a firecracker, you light the fuse and wait for it to explode in a multitude of different colours. It is highly unpredictable too, but that is exactly why she captures so many headlines, and she knows it. Very rarely have I seen a chart like this, with the boldness of the Aries Sun combined with the deep emotional passion and secretive nature of the Moon Pluto conjunction, the luck and the talent of Jupiter and Midheaven and the unpredictable genius that lies at the heart of her reservoir of talent through Neptune Mars and Uranus.

There is just one planet left which holds things together. Saturn in her 6th house in Sagittarius. This Saturn is square to the Midheaven and Jupiter and trine to her Sun. She is a hard worker, someone who knows how to put her nose to the grindstone, she knows that success does not come without graft and dedication. I think this discipline came from her parents. It is reported she was brought up in a working class neighbourhood, and Virgo on the cusp of her 4th house of home and family confirms this. Despite her fame, she will be mindful and I think humble because of her roots.

This Saturn looks after the details, dots the i’s and crosses the t’s. This Saturn plots her career path with careful efficiency. Without this Saturn, I think she might go completely off the rails. Neptune’s square to the Sun is one of those connections that could lead one down a crazed path of drugs and alcohol and she may well dabble in these things, but Saturn in Sagittarius keeps a lid on the excesses as one knows that one has deadlines to keep, contracts to fulfil and the public to serve. So many talented people don’t have this grounding on their chart, but Lady Gaga has. With the innovation and carefully crafted, controversial image that she has developed and the clever way she fuses rock with electro with R&B and with dance, this is one artist who may well cross the ages and achieve long lasting success.

King Richard III – What does astrology say about the “evil deformed” King?

Richard Plantangenat was only King of England for 2 years, the last King of the house of York killed on the battlefield of Bosworth field in 1485, as Henry Tudor, later to be Henry VII backed by French troops swept to victory. His character has been tainted by rumour and accusations, in the main based around the disappearance of the two young “Princes in the Tower”. On the death of his brother King Edward IV, in 1483, he was made Lord Protector over young Edward V who was 12, and his younger 9 year old brother Richard. Holding them in the Tower of London after Edward IV’s marriage was “annulled and declared invalid”, Richard grabbed power as the young Princes “disappeared” and was acclaimed King of England on 6th July 1483. Shakespeare in his play portrayed King Richard III as an evil man with a limp and a crooked back and that image has stuck to this day. He is back in the news now as an archaeological dig in Leicester, England claims to have found a skeleton that could be Richard. Tests on the body’s DNA are being carried out and we will know for definite in a few weeks time. So what does Astrology say about him? Luckily, we have a birth chart for the day he was born to look at…

Richard was a sign sign Libran, born 9.02am on 2nd October 1452 at Fotheringhay Castle in Northamptonshire, England. Now because of the Julian Calendar in force at the time, I have had to adjust the date to the Gregorian Calendar we use today. This is because of the software I own. The time has also been adjusted slightly to get the correct ascendant degree. The information I use is from Astro-Databank.

Along with his Libran Sun, he had a possessive Taurean Moon and a Scorpio Ascendant. Interesting that both these two personal indicators were ruled by Venus, and this indicates somebody who had quite a fair amount of personal charm and I can imagine that he was somebody who was interested in people and relationships. Now the Sun conjunct to Saturn and the Ascendant in Scorpio would have cooled this friendly Libran Sun. Those with Sun Saturn conjunctions tend to put a brick wall up when it comes to showing affection and when one is in social occasions and the Scorpio ascendant is wary, secretive and obsessive. This I think was an introspective man and with Mercury following on rising behind the Sun, sitting in the 12th house in Scorpio too, he would not have said much and when he did, he would have questioned every action without giving anything away himself. There is a lot of ambition here with Sun and Saturn together and the Scorpio ascendant would have added to an obsession for power which lay deep below the surface out of the view of all who knew him. Furthermore, the Uranus Pluto conjunction in regal Leo shows he had an enormous drive for personal aggrandizement. The position of the Sun and Saturn in the 11th house showed that Richard was someone who shined when working with others and this position also showed a man with desperate need to be loved and adored.

The Sun Saturn conjunction Mercury in Scorpio and Neptune in Libra form a pointer including a double opposition to Mars in Aries in the 5th house, which was retrograde. There is no doubt that Richard was a brave man and a warrior. Mars in Aries is aggressive and in the 5th house loves sport and action, and the opposition to Saturn and the Sun showed a man who was a good military commander. Mercury and Saturn’s trine to Jupiter showed good breath of vision and organisational ability, being able to see all sides of a situation. Back to that pointer. Mars retrograde also showed repressed anger and a man who would look very cool on the outside but frustrated and burning with passion on the inside. That quindecile between Mars and Mercury I think showed heightened idealism and possibly a element of delusion and the other quindecile to Mars from Neptune shows smouldering levels of seduction to get people to do what he wanted them to do. For sure he had an ability to deceive yet keep the signs of his deceit well under wraps.

Women would have been very important to Richard, he wouldn’t have been able to exist on his own without a woman by his side. His 7th house Moon in Taurus is very possessive and very sensual as well as being very passionate and showing a jealous side as it is opposite to Venus in Scorpio. I am sure with Venus in the 1st house that he was a bit conscious of his appearance and the combination of Taurus Moon & Venus in the first house and a Libran Sun shows someone who would rather negotiate his way out of a disagreement rather than fight, however this was a changeable character who could probably turn on an instant to the dismay of those around him. With Uranus square to his Mercury, I am sure he had a sharp sense of humour which could be use to break any ice if he had to, but it could also switch his mood rather quickly making him react in a rather erratic nature.

This Moon Venus opposition is squared by Jupiter and despite the evil tags that I hear about Richard, this position showed someone who would have been generous to friends, would have loved socializing and having a good time and would have always given the benefit of the doubt to those close to him, even if they made faults or mistakes. Jupiter in the 3rd is in a position of learning, and he would have been very open to expanding his knowledge and reaching out to test new ideas and concepts. This was not a conservative man, quite the opposite; he would have been very interested in reform and making forward progress.

So to sum up, we do have a rather complex character. I think very cool yet charming, somebody who like a good time but could keep his cards very close to his chest. Maybe people close to him would think they knew what he was thinking, but they never would actually know. Maybe the evil tag has come from a very sly charm that I am sure he had, and people not entirely wanting to trust him, and they would be right. Under the skin, this was someone who definitely had an enormous ego drive and a thirst for power and I suspect he would stop at nothing to get what he wanted.

Out of all the quotes from Shakespeare’s Richard III which I looked at, this one seem strangely ironic and from the astrology have I looked at rings eerily true. Shakespeare wrote in Richard III “And thus I clothe my naked villany. With old odd ends stolen out of holy writ; And seem a saint, when most I play the devil”

Why is he in the news now? I think it has something to do with his outer planets. Transiting Pluto is now making a trine to his Midheaven, his public reputation point on his chart just as the dig for his body in Leicester is happening. Remember Pluto represents death and regeneration, secrets and things underground, where his body has been lying for over 500 years. Transiting Neptune is also making an opposition to his Midheaven from the nadir of his chart, lifting a cloud of uncertainty of where he was buried. I think that these two indicators will reveal that the body found under the car park is that of the long lost King.

During the first three weeks of October your Sun will be in the main in your 8th house. The full Moon occurs in Taurus in your 3rd house opposing Saturn on 29th October. Phone calls, emails and interventions from brothers and sisters or neighbours may all keep you incredibly busy and you may react in an unusual way and be on edge more than normal. Background influences for October

The Sun in the first three weeks of the month is passing through your 9th house of higher learning, beliefs and travel in the first half of the month so you will be in a mood to take in as much information as you can during this period. On the 25th October, the Sun meets Saturn in Scorpio trine to Neptune. This is a time when your can build on your personal philosophies and faith. This connection brings a realisation of what you need to do to make them understand fully what you stand for.

The full Moon on 29th arrives in your 4th house in Taurus and opposes Saturn so issues at home may dominate your thoughts. This may include finding a balance between your work life and your domestic one. Quite possibly your boss or someone in authority may be imposing their will and ideas on you and this could affect things at home. Background influences for October

In the first three weeks of October, the Sun will be passing through your 4th house of family and domestic affairs. You will certainly be more concerned about you family and you will naturally want to spend more time at home, but your thoughts and emotions will also be drawn to looking more inwardly at yourself and things that happened in the past. Events that affected you deeply in previous years will need to be assessed and analysed so that you can work out why they happened in order that you can solve any current problems or issues in your life. This therefore is a time of quite a lot of reflection and self-analysis. Women are important now, and a lot issues surrounding them or involving your mother will be important to you. In the last week of the month the Sun moves into the more light hearted 5th house and you will be more inclined to go out, enjoy life with friends and with your children. Now will be the time for your more inventive and creative side of your personality to shine through.

Mercury in the 5th house is in a jocular mood for most of this month, and you may be interested in playing games or taking on mental challenges. Mercury in the chart is also the trickster in the sky, and here in the 5th house it is liable to encourage you to play practical jokes on others – be careful not to be insensitive. You will certainly be able to express your opinions and ideas clearly, but your ability to listen to other views will not as good as it normally would be either.

Venus early in the month moves into your 3rd house of communications and local affairs. Your life is going to get a lot busier at this time as you make lots of social trips, deal with a succession of letters and people getting in touch with you including your brothers and sisters if you have them. Venus is the planet of love, so why not tell the people around you that you do love and appreciate them; spread a little love around your local area & you'll feel good for doing so. Trips to explore the beauty of your local surroundings may be enjoyable and well worth doing.

From the 5th through to the 7th 3 planets all change signs, Mars into Sagittarius and Mercury and Saturn simultaneously into Scorpio. Through the following weeks of October, you should be feeling more energized physically allowing you to maybe take up a new hobby or sport, or control you children in a more effective way!!

Early into the month and on the 3rd October we have a Venus Neptune opposition squared by Mars. Artistically this can be a really stimulating time so let those talents flow however there are also downside to these connections. It is possible that you can take unwise financial or emotional risks under this influence, so if you decide to do so, be aware of the potential consequences. Also be careful, as the temptation to cheat or deceive others in games or in sport is strong now.

Moving on to mid month and the new Moon in Libra hits in your 4th house on 15th October. This starts a phase when you may feel the need to reorganise your family needs or even to plan a bit more long-term into the future for what you feel you need to achieve in your life in relation to everyone else. You also may start an interest into your family history or want to explore your roots or where you came from.

On the 17th Uranus receives a double hit from Mars and Pluto. In this dynamic connection, you can make some significant progress at work but in the process you run the risk of causing conflict with those your colleagues. Work with them and be inclusive rather than working against them and you and you’ll be fine. On the 25th October, the Sun meets Saturn in Scorpio and makes an easy trine aspect to Neptune. Conversations at home with your parents or family or help from your relatives can help learn more about yourself or aid you in any financial decisions that you have to make. Listen to the advice they give.

The full Moon at the end of the month is in Taurus in your 11th house of friends and associations opposite to Saturn moving through your 5th house. Now you may be asked to help out someone, maybe a friend who needs assistance. By sharing you time and abilities, you may learn a little lesson that life is not just lived on an individual basis, and the love of friends and those who appreciate you is truly valuable. This may mean that your own creative ideas may have to go on hold for a little while.
